A Lighting-Filled Renovation by Doni Douglas Designs

A Bold Blend in Shrewsbury: Inside Jaclyn Isaac’s Artful Family Home
Originally built 150 years ago as a farmhand’s home to the neighboring farm, this Shrewsbury, NJ property carried a rich history that interior designer Jaclyn Isaac, founder of Doni Douglas Designs, was determined to honor. Drawing inspiration from a European farmhouse aesthetic, she approached her own family’s renovation with the same thoughtfulness and polish that has made her firm a standout in the East Coast design world. Known for blending vintage character with sleek modern finishes, Isaac crafted a space where lighting plays a starring role—elevating the interiors room by room.
From custom cabinetry to character-rich finishes, the result is a masterclass in residential interior design—with statement lighting fixtures from Crystorama adding bold, defining touches throughout.
Kitchen: Sleek Meets Soulful
The kitchen is the heart of the home, and this one blends form and function with ease. Wire-brushed oak cabinetry and soapstone countertops are paired with a cabinetry in a stainless steel look, giving the space a grounded, tactile quality.
Lighting was essential here: the Xavier 6 Light Chandelier in matte black delivers sculptural drama above the island, while a Xavier 1 Light Pendant above the sink adds architectural balance. Paired with the Brizo Litze Luxe Nickel Faucet and soft veining in the stone, the design is both timeless and fresh.
Dining Room: Old World Soul
Just steps from the kitchen, the dining room leans into Isaac’s signature layered aesthetic. Moody blue-gray walls and exposed ceiling beams meet modern lighting and antique furniture.
The Royston 2 Light Wall Sconces in gilded gold create a soft glow, framing a dramatic black etagere saved from the Gloria estate in Englewood, NJ and grounding the room’s old-world feel. Mint velvet-upholstered chairs and vintage wood elements add to the room’s charm.
Living Room: Casual Geometry
Opening the salvaged antique pocket doors reveals a cozy corner where soft curves and texture shine. A camel-colored tufted ottoman and layered area rugs sets a playful tone for this young family, while above, the Royston 3 Light Flush Mount adds a modern silhouette and subtle geometry without overwhelming the space.
Fia’s Room: Storybook Charm, Elevated
This nursery space is straight out of a dream. A hand-painted mural brings whimsy across the wall of closets, while a mix of vintage rattan furniture, a cain-front dresser, and a striped woven rug keep the look grounded.
Stairwell & Hallway: A Grand Vertical Moment
The open stairwell creates a visual connection between levels, made even more striking with the addition of the Keenan 8 Light Chandelier. Its vintage gold finish draws the eye upward and adds a sculptural quality to the architecture.
In the adjacent hallway, the Royston Flush Mounts and Juno Wall Sconces were selected for their ability to highlight art by JP Kilkenny without overwhelming it.
Design That’s Layered, Lit, and Loved
Jaclyn Isaac’s Shrewsbury home is a study in intentional design. Every finish, fixture, and flourish speaks to her deep understanding of how lighting and interiors can transform the way we live.
