Lighting the Nest: Jewel Marlowe’s Custom Crystorama Installation at the Hamptons Designer Showhouse

For the past 24 years, the Hamptons Designer Showhouse has brought together America’s premier design talent, raising nearly $2 million for Stony Brook Southampton Hospital since its inception. The 2025 edition, presented by HC&G (Hamptons Cottages & Gardens) , once again showcased exceptional creativity—this year with Jamie Drake and Alexa Hampton serving as Honorary Design Chairs.
Hosted at a contemporary 9,000-square-foot Bridgehampton retreat —complete with tennis court, pool, and separate guest house—the Showhouse featured the work of more than 20 top interior designers from the Hamptons, New York City, and across the country. The annual event not only celebrates cutting-edge design, but also raises vital funds to support the hospital’s network of services for residents throughout Long Island’s South Fork.
Amid the stunning rooms was “The Nest”, a second-floor lounge designed by DC-based designer Jewel Marlowe . Jewel’s bold, layered approach transformed the blank space into a jewel-toned sanctuary, anchored by a fully custom Crystorama Addis chandelier installation —a showstopping blend of lighting and sculpture created exclusively for this project.

The Space: From Blank Canvas to Jewel’s Vision
When Jewel first saw the room, it was a blank slate. Her concept came to life in 6 weeks from the beginning of planning to completion blending luxurious textures, historical references, and a modern play on color. Because the space was intended for her family’s most intimate moments, she wanted it to feel deeply personal yet visually stunning.
“This is where a family would curl up at the end of the day—so it had to be cozy, but it also had to be a showstopper,” says Jewel.

The Custom Lighting Story
The concept began with the Crystorama Addis 16-light art glass chandelier —measuring 32 inches wide by 21 inches high —as the foundation. From there, Jewel envisioned something beyond a standard fixture. She conceptualized a one-of-a-kind art piece , fully customized for the lounge, that would merge lighting and sculpture into a single statement installation.
To bring her idea to life, she requested an additional 200 art glass trench tubes, with an equal mix of white and clear glass, to create a striking ombré effect. These tubes were arranged in a floating, halo-like formation around the chandelier, giving the sense that the light was expanding outward and dissolving into the air.
One thing that’s really cool about this room is we’re using the Addis chandelier—and then we’re using extra Addis crystals to create this really ethereal, large-scale art-slash-lighting installation,” Jewel explains. “Right now, you’re seeing the bare bones, but once those extra crystals are in place, the chandelier will have this floating, almost otherworldly effect,” she shared.

Over the course of the six-week Showhouse build, the chandelier evolved from a stunning design on paper into a mesmerizing, one-of-a-kind centerpiece . Its glow dances across the ombré Stark rug and Fine & Dandy mural wallpaper, tying together the room’s color story while adding movement and drama that no standard fixture could achieve.

Mural Wallpaper: Bringing the Outdoors In
The walls are wrapped in Fine & Dandy’s “Babylon” mural wallpaper , a sweeping tree-lined scene that blurs the boundary between the indoors and the natural Hamptons landscape just outside. The muted greens and earthy tones create a serene backdrop, allowing the bolder elements of the room to shine. This mural sets the tone for The Nest, infusing it with grounded elegance while tying into the room’s “nature meets luxury” narrative.

Custom Drapery: Fabric as Architecture
Jewel designed her drapery using Fabricut’s Resurgence pattern, custom-printed onto drapery weight fabric for the project. The result is a lush, dimensional treatment with a soft ombré fade that echoes the rug and chandelier. Constructed by Home Interiors by Anthony Giamarita and The Beakman Group , the drapes are paired with a custom valance featuring “drippy” curves—an element repeated in the chandelier’s silhouette.
“I have purposely strayed from the expected Hamptons style. Instead, I have chosen to make this room otherworldly and whimsical. " says Jewel.

Color Story: Jewel Tones with an Edge
Rich, saturated hues are central to Jewel’s design vocabulary, and here she takes it to a luxurious extreme. The “Jewelachite” painted doors bring a swirling red-malachite effect that feels both artful and decadent. Non-traditional snake skin and red leopard velvet add texture and intrigue, while a uniquely hued peacock sculpture from The Trophy Collection nods to the room’s name, The Nest.

Neoclassical Touches: A Timeless Counterpoint
To ground the bold color and playful patterns, Jewel incorporated neoclassical elements throughout the space. Moulding from White River Hardwoods provides architectural gravitas, while antique Klismos chairs and Greek key trim on the drapes connect the room to centuries-old design traditions. These classical references temper the whimsy, creating a sophisticated balance.

Layered Shapes: The Art of Repetition
One of Jewel’s signatures is repeating shapes to create visual rhythm. Here, ombré gradients flow from the Stark Carpets rug into the drapery and chandelier tubes. Curved furniture silhouettes soften the space, while the chandelier’s dripping form mirrors the valance above the windows. This repetition creates a sense of cohesion, drawing the eye across the room in a deliberate, harmonious flow.
The completed lounge is glamorous yet approachable, filled with personal touches. Jewel even positioned a mirror to perfectly reflect the chandelier, ensuring its sparkle is visible from every angle.

This project illustrates how customizable lighting from Crystorama can transform a room from beautiful to unforgettable. By tailoring the Addis chandelier into a fully custom art-light installation, Jewel created a statement piece that is both functional and sculptural —a design element that defines the entire room.
Whether you’re a designer seeking to personalize a project or a homeowner looking for a signature statement, Crystorama’s custom capabilities can make your lighting dreams a reality.
